Baden Region

Baden
Baden is the only German wine region within the viticultural Zone B. Germany's 12 other wine regions are classed Zone A. A sprawling region, reaching from Badisches Frankenland all the way south to the Kaiserstuhl near Freiburg. This includes the high altitude vineyards at Singen and around Lake Constance. The most important wines produced today are produced in the Kaiserstuhl with Ihringen, Achkarren, and Oberrotweil arguably the most important villages. Varietals in Baden include Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling. The Baden region also produces some of the finest Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) produced in Germany. Using new barriques and Burgundy clones, Baden red wines, especially from the top producers as Dr. Heger, can be excellent examples of the breed. In fact all Pinot varieties from the Kaiserstuhl's top producers are of exceptional quality.
